Meet the Managers: Laura Sforza

I started with MDK in 2008 as an Eviction Paralegal before moving into an Attorney Assistant role in 2009. In early 2012, I took the position of the Hearing Department Manager. At the end of the same year, MDK combined the Hearings Department and Attorney Assistants, now known as Attorney Support Staff. In 2016, we were joined by the Foreclosure Defense group and then Title Curative in 2019.

Prior to coming to MDK, I worked in commercial leasing and management with Jones Lang LaSalle in Chicago, Illinois and residential leasing and management with Edwards Communities in Columbus, Ohio. It was here that I took a class in real estate law as well as seminars in customer service. I enjoyed working with people and the legal aspect of real estate, which then sparked my interest in paralegal studies.

Throughout my career at MDK, I found an interest in operations and process development. I became immersed in process thinking and utilize it daily whether it is a simple ruleset change, restructuring a procedure or department, or even following a recipe at home. There is comfort in systematic thinking and a feeling of success in creating something that helps others do their jobs effectively.

Over time, I have learned a great deal about processes, operations, and business but collaborating with others feeds that interpersonal side that I have always thrived in working. I am energized by the people at MDK, specifically my department members. They push me to be a better leader and teammate. I am grateful to be a part of such a talented group of individuals and am driven by their achievements. I strive for efficiency to empower them with the skills and tools needed to be successful in their careers. My hope is that these efforts make an impact on others and the organization.

MDK took a chance on me and I am grateful for the opportunity as it allowed me to create an uncommon professional path and define my own intrinsic success. It is the forward thinking, collaboration, people, and a small firm feel that keeps me motivated and with the company all these years.

Outside of the office, I have two boys that keep me very busy. With what spare time I have, I enjoy watching way too many shows, reading, cooking (albeit not well), working out to keep up with my energetic kids (I LOVE the Peloton app), and I have a love for singing and music.
