Matt Richardson is a trial lawyer who deftly represents MDK’s clients in complex litigation matters. He has hands-on experience in all stages of litigation in both state and federal court, including taking and defending depositions, arguing motions, managing trial teams, and defending appeals.
Matt Richardson is the firm's Director of Litigation and practices out of MDK’s home office in Columbus. With the assistance of the firm's attorneys and staff, Matt manages the essential task of limiting the litigation risk for the firm and its clients. He is an executive editor of and regular contributor to the MDK Quarterly, an MDK publication that highlights insights and opinions on legal issues. For all of his outstanding achievements in the field of law, Matt has earned Best Lawyers recognition from 2019- 2023.
Throughout his career, Matt has practiced in the areas of commercial and financial services litigation and currently focuses his practice on defending mortgage servicers in trials and appeals. Matt began his career with a clerkship with the Honorable Howell Cobb of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. Following his clerkship, Matt practiced as a litigation associate at Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP in Columbus before joining MDK.
Matt earned his juris doctorate from the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, where he was Editor-in-Chief of the Ohio State Law Journal and won awards and scholarships for his performance in trial practice coursework and service to the Journal. Currently, Matt serves as adjunct professor of law at Moritz for its course in Appellate Advocacy.
Before law school, Matt earned an M.A. and Ph.D. in English at Ohio State and taught courses in writing, research, and literature to undergraduates at Ohio State. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Stanford University with a major in English with Honors.
